Ever since the concept of the Freedom Messengers Network was first developed at the Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists, and through the program’s official launch, those responsible for the program sought to create an initiative that would not be limited to a few workshops, lectures or events but rather they wanted to create a community of “messengers” committed to a common goal. That goal was to employ their combined creative energies to defend freedom of expression, hold government accountable and promote development.
The Freedom Messengers Network (FMN) is a program which provides young artists, journalists and film makers an outlet to promote democratic values. Our goals was to attract a group of talented young men and women committed to promoting democracy and human rights. FMN provides young artists workshops on writing, filmmaking, song-writing and drawing. At the end of the program participants produce an original work which can take the form of a documentary film, an art or cartoon exhibition, a monthly newspaper, a play or a music album. The only requirement is that the work promote human rights and democracy.
