Amman- March 18th – The civil society coordinating coalition HIMAM expresses its sorrow and condemnation to the decision of the UN Secretary General to withdraw the report issued by the UN Economic and Social Committee of West Asia (ESCWA) and is following with anxiety the news about pressures that the deputy secretary general and the executive director of ESCWA Dr. Rima Khalaf to either amend or withdraw the report that is dealing with Israeli racists actions against the Palestinian people. This is not the first time that she has been under such pressures.
After reviewing the report and its annexes, Himam sees that the brave team that carried out this report did a scientific and objective investigation away from political biases. The proceedings and the data that are professionally documented in the report shows that Israel is applying “racist separation” on the Palestinian people.
The Israeli strategy in this regard is aimed at dividing the Palestinian people within the homeland and in the diaspora refugee camps.
Himam sees that the content of the report and its conclusion is confirming the reports by local and international agencies over the past seven decades. This fabricated storm about the report is part of the policy that Israel carries out in an attempt to blackmail international agencies and civil society organisations under the sponsorship of consecutive US governments.
Himam adds its voice to to those around the globe fighting for freedom and independence and the right to self determination. Himam calls for the implementation of the recommendations made in the report as a prelude to prosecuting Israel at the International criminal court which considers racism and national discrimination a crime of war.
Himam also would like to express its support and pride in the brave position taken by Dr. Rima Khalaf for refusing these pressures and blackmails and standing up for human rights and international law. Himam also would like to express it warning to world public opinion not to allow this incident to breakdown trust in international agencies such as the UN because of the position taken by the Secretary general which reflects the double standard and the fact that the UN has allowed itself to ٍsubmitt to the dictates of some member states on the account of the trust that has been given to the UN by the world community to end colonialism and to allow the peoples of the world self determination as well as to fight all forms of racism and discrimination which are threatening security and international peace.
It is noteworthy that the coordinating coalition of civil society organisations Himam is made up of the following NGOs:
